Like you, we have been awaiting more detailed information regarding a proposed completion date for the maintenance work on the course and handover back from Canal & River Trust. Unfortunately, we have no involvement with the physical works or completion timeline, however, there is now water in the course, and whilst there is still work going on in the background, this is great news that a reopening date is seemingly getting closer.
As soon as we receive further information we will update you all and will publish the summer programme for the course.
Thanks for your patience and fingers crossed it won’t be long before we’re all back on the water.
This weekend the UK Canoe Slalom racing calendar is coming to Tees Barrage International White Water Centre (TBIWWC). There are two full days of action with paddlers flooding in from all corners of the UK and competing to run the white water course in the quickest time whilst negotiating the slalom gates.
The event held over 13th-14th October at this world class facility promises to attract the best slalom paddlers including several of Tees Active Sports Academy members.
Chris Gibbens, Centre Manager at TBIWWC said “Canoe slalom is a spectacular sport to watch as it demands a vast amount of skill, stamina and courage. The series of races across the weekend promises to be a great event and we welcome spectators to come and watch the action unfold. Whether you are interested in watersports or not it will be an entertaining spectacle to watch for people of all ages as well as families.”
The premiership division races will proceed on Saturday 13th at 9:15am and run throughout the day. The Pan Celtic cup competition will also be held on Saturday. This international series will see England, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales compete against each another in all categories and at all ages.
On Sunday 14th October the Division One competitors will take to the water as part of the Division One Championship. This will propel the number of competitors to descend on the Stockton Course to over two hundred paddlers over the weekend. Races on Sunday start at 10am and run until 5:40pm.
