If you don’t want bold and daring activities, or want somewhere to go for a day out with the kids, we have plenty of leisure activities. All along the beautiful River Tees and all free of charge!

Walking adventures, cafe stops and picnics 

There are lots of scenic footpaths and cycle routes that weave around our white water course. These are perfect for leisurely strolls with the family or brisk walks with the dog. On your way around, you get to see rafters battling the rapids, workmates arguing about building a raft, and daredevils scaling the mighty Air Trail. Make a pitstop at The Barrage Cafe for lunch, or bring your own picnic and set up a banquet on a table overlooking the river. If you’re lucky, you might spot some wildlife, and we’re sure you’ll see a plenty of kayakers and canoeists.

Cycling and wildlife-spotting

The nearby nature reserve is a big hit with adults and kids alike. Head here to spot friendly critters in their natural habitat or bring your bikes and take on the winding, riverside cycle route. Tees Barrage is a popular place to go in Teesside for photography too, so make sure to bring your camera.

There are walking and cycling routes that lead down the river towards Newport Bridge and the mouth of the river. Or, you can head towards the Infinity Bridge in Stockton towards Yarm.
