Like you, we have been awaiting more detailed information regarding a proposed completion date for the maintenance work on the course and handover back from Canal & River Trust. Unfortunately, we have no involvement with the physical works or completion timeline, however, there is now water in the course, and whilst there is still work going on in the background, this is great news that a reopening date is seemingly getting closer.
As soon as we receive further information we will update you all and will publish the summer programme for the course.
Thanks for your patience and fingers crossed it won’t be long before we’re all back on the water.

Whether you are a seasoned pro with a high resolution lens, or you just love a sunny selfie, there is some amazing photo opportunities all around Tees Barrage. We love an excuse to take photos and videos, especially some action shots on the white water course. There is also a wide range of wildlife you can spot in the area, you can often see seals in the water and we once even had a dolphin (we think)! Not to mention the salmon migration in Autumn and the abundance of birds and insects all year round. If you want to explore the Barrage for the first time we have a number of walking and cycling routes to help get you started.
You will find plenty of photo opportunities around the Barrage. Seals aren't the biggest posers but they can be seen popping their heads up from the water or basking in the sun on hot days.
The Tees Barrage is surrounded by green space and marshlands which are home to a variety of plant life of different shapes and sizes, showcasing the most remarkable display of colours.
There's no better way to build a dynamic and exciting photography portfolio than some incredible watersports action shots up close and personal. the white water course is a hot spot for budding photographers capturing the madness in split second snapshots.
Tees Barrage is home to an abundance of bird species and residents here vary depending on the time of year. You can expect to see anything from Cormorants and Yellow Wagtails to Peregrines and Lapwings.
