Tees Active Academy Star Brings Home Silver on the World Stage

Tees Active Sports Academy member Daisy Cooil scoops a silver medal at the 2018 ICF Canoe Slalom Junior World Championships in Ivrea, Italy.

Daisy Cooil aged 17, qualified for the World Championships earlier this year after competing against fellow paddlers from around the United Kingdom. The top three paddlers from each category were selected to represent Great Britain in Italy.

Having successfully qualified Daisy took to the world stage on the 17th July in the Team C1 event. She deservedly picked up the silver medal alongside her teammates Beth Forrow and Ellis Millar in what was an extremely competitive event with paddlers challenging for the title from across the world.

Daisy added “I’m overwhelmed! It still hasn’t really sunk in yet! To get a silver medal at this level is such a great achievement” Daisy continued to say… It’s really amazing having Tees Barrage White Water Centre so close to where I live, it’s a great facility and I’m very lucky to be able to train on the white water course there.

Jake Brown also competed in Ivrea in the K1 team event category and finished in a very respectable fifth position.

Both Daisy and Jake both competed individually in their chosen categories and both reached the semi-final stages. Yet another great achievement for both of the Tees Active Academy members.
